Flowerdale

First off, an apology, I am so behind with my blog posts but I have had quite alot of family commitments and they are still ongoing so please bare with me, normal blogging will resume shortly.

In the meantime, I managed to find the Gail Pan Flowerdale pattern in the UK, thanks to Gail Pan letting me know who stocks them.

This is just one amazing pattern and quilt, I first spotted it in Australian Homespun but it has taken me ages to source it.

While I was in the process of ordering the Flowerdale pattern I found out that the Patchwork Chicks also do  the Berries and Bluebirds Block of the month, complete with fabric for all the appliqued block and the borders and binding.

I can't wait to see these coming through the letterbox, but there is no point in stalking Royal Mail as they seem to be on a go slow at the moment, I am still missing two magazines that were sent two weeks ago, so frustrating.

Have a great weekend all and I will catch up with everyone soon and blog about my table runner prize as well.  Charging the camera batteries as we speak.

Square Root Quilt

Here it is...

Fabienne's quilt made with Benartex Abbey Road fabric

Kona Cotton in Tangerine.

The pattern in Gigi's Thimble Square Root, I loved doing this as it went together so well.

Aurifil 40 was the cotton thread used for the machine quilting of squares on both the front and back

I hope you can manage to make out the squares.  I would love to do this pattern again sometime soon.  The binding was done by hand.  It is my favourite quilt to date and the one I have enjoyed doing the most.  I have entered it into the quilters gallery competition for Squares and Rectangles, hope you like it and you will vote for me. :)

My first mug rug

This is my first mug rug attempt.  It is made with Moda Oasis, I have had the fabric sitting for a while and decided this was a good idea for one of my children's godparents.  It is quilted by doing 1/4" cross-overs over the points and 1/4" away from each side of the seams which gives a diamond pattern.  Really easy to do and I backed it with the same fabric as the binding so the diamond pattern looked great, just I forgot to take a picture of the back, if I get I will see if I can another picture.

Watch out over the next few days as I have got my nieces orange quilt finished and just need to take some beautiful pictures to do it justice. :)

All Stars!

Quiltessentials at Orton Grange near Carlisle ran a one day workshop to make the All Stars pattern.

We had loads of fun, quilting, meeting like minded girls, plenty of coffee, a far too filling lunch (nothing sweet I might add).

Barbara owns the Quiltessentials shop and runs the courses.  They are always informative, you get plenty done, as well as having a laugh and giggle.  By the end of the day, we think we knew each other pretty well, who buys the most, who chats the most, who works the most but I am not telling on anybody lol :)

Lynn, Gay and Anne

working hard, but still enjoying the chat

I hard a very bad case of fabric envy, Anne used Blueberry Crumb Cake, Gay used Rouenneries, Lynn used Pappillon, Joy used Mill House Inn and I was on Luna Notte.  OOhh - all made by the wonderful Moda, my favourite but I needed to take theirs home with me. :)

Lynn concentrating really hard, I think she must have got loads done.

Joy taking a break and looking good - we know what you were doing - remember for next time girls, chins up, stomachs in lol

Lunch over and back to it.  Roasted Red Pepper and Tomato Soup along with a Brie & Bacon Pannini, salad and coleslaw.  Beautiful lunch, I eat too much and I think that put paid to me doing loads of work in the afternoon,  I think I needed a nap lol ;)

Me pretending to work hard as I had actually finished (not), so much for the chin up and stomachs in idea!!!

The days work, the pattern involves alot of cutting, but once you get sorted you can get it done quite quickly.  It will be random at the end of the day, but I am not putting two of the same next to each other, or that black one near the latte, or ...

Barbara - our host and teacher for the day - showing off the quilt that we are making - it is absolutely beautiful, I love the pattern and the fact that it comes from jelly rolls made by Moda.

Thank you for a great day out girls and a big thank you to Barbara for all your help and teaching and supply of tea and coffee.  See you again on the 7th June girls, remember you need a layer cake because you will have finished what you started yesterday :)

Tula Pink Prince Charming Frame

Who wouldn't love everything covered in Prince Charming fabric.  I am waiting (patiently I may add) for my varnished pine to dry in my sewing room.  It is getting a total revamp, but more on that later.  I have had a frame with a picture of each of my children in ready to be altered for about 18 months and haven't got round to it.  I have cut out all my fabric from the Prince Charming range for the Tula Pink Field Study pattern for darling daughter's room and couldn't throw away any of the little bits.  So, with a paintbrush, fabric pieces and my matte medium from Claudine Hellmuth I was raring to go and look what I accomplished.  I have been losing my way a little lately and this fabric has really inspired me to just get on and try - if it doesn't work, so what, try again, if it does, wow, the results are great.  What is even better is I didn't throw any fabric away.  I am seriously thinking of doing the draws on my pine units in some of my favourite quilting fabric, then I have loads of inspiration when I go into my sewing room.

It has dried beautifully, I coated the fabric with the medium once it was applied as well which gives it a stronger finish.  Very easy to do, all in one night and I know it will brighten my room. :)
